Gillie’s: If you are looking for a fun, laid-back family environment to enjoy some music and vegetarian food, this is the place for you. Located on College Avenue, Gillie’s has been serving up homemade vegetarian breakfast, lunch and dinner since the 1980s and is a favorite among the locals. Local musicians are showcased on Thursday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m. and there is no cover charge.
The Cellar: A favorite among students, The Cellar is know for their pita pizza, Greek food and alcoholic beverage selection. The Cellar has live music on Thursday nights starting at 9 p.m. and going until about midnight. On Monday nights The Cellar offers their Blues James and Open Mic nights starting at 9 p.m.
622 North: This restaurant, wine lodge and bar offers a wide assortment of food and drinks for the Blacksburg community. They also have Frank’s on their main floor, which is a full-service bar with pool tables and televisions. 622’s hours vary, so check their website ahead of time for more information. They also host a wide variety of musical acts and feature special beers and wine. The events have a cover charge ranging from $2-$5 and all events are for ages 21 and up.
Bull and Bones Brewhaus & Grill: If you want a good steak, this is the place to go. Bull and Bones offers a wide variety of food and drinks. Though the restaurant is a little on the pricey side it has become a favorite for the Blacksburg community. Every Saturday, they host a themed dance party with a DJ starting at 10:30 p.m. For those 21 and older, admission is free, but the 18-20 year-old crowd is charged a $10 admission fee.
Sycamore Deli: With its laidback atmosphere and good size portions, Sycamore Deli is a great local place to catch a few shows. They have specials every day of the week, including Weenie Wednesday and Meatball Monday. Every Saturday and on some Thursdays and Fridays, there is a show usually starting at 9 p.m. that goes until the early morning hours. The cover charges vary based on the performance, but usually range from $3-$8.
