The Panhellenic and Inter-Fraternity Councils work together each year to plan the event for children in the New River Valley. It provides a safe environment for young ghouls and goblins to collect candy, play games and walk through haunted houses.
?Oak Lane Trick-or-Treat is a great way for us to give back to the community,? said Delta Gamma member Megan Fay, a senior marketing major in the Pamplin College of Business. ?It's always fun to hang out with the kids."
Fraternity and sorority members hosted approximately 3,000 children in their on-campus community last year, and this year?s numbers . All elementary school-aged children were encouraged to come out for the event.
Rachel Ross, Panhellenic Director of Community Outreach, said, ?The fraternities and sororities will be hosts to haunted houses and games that the kids can play. Other houses will be handing out candy as the kids walk around Oak Lane with their parents and chaperones.?
Some off-campus fraternities paired up with sororities to hand out candy as well. A group of children also came from a YMCA after-school program to participate in the events.
