Dating dilemmas will receive a new prescription tonight as the Panhellenic Council and the International Fraternity Committee welcome the Dating Doctor, David Coleman, to Virginia Tech?s campus. Regarded as ?America?s real-life Hitch,? Coleman will hit the stage of Burruss Hall at 8 p.m. this evening to share relationship advice that will aid and inspire the Virginia Tech student body and surrounding community in all aspects of his or her life.
As a nationally recognized speaker and author, Coleman has received the National Collegiate Speaker of the Year on 10 separate occasions, to include this current year?s title. He has appeared in popular publications such as Cosmopolitan, Glamour, USA Today and The New York Times. He has also made appearances on all of the major television networks and with numerous radio stations, not to include his countless visits to campuses, organizations and businesses across the country.
The Panhellenic Council and IFC are more than excited to host this nationally recognized speaker. Coleman?s talents were discovered this past February at the Mid-American Greek Council Association when ?a bunch of girls and IFC saw him speak and gave him amazing reviews. He was absolutely fabulous, so we had to bring him to Virginia Tech,? said Christy Looney, Vice President of Marketing for the Panhellenic Council. ?He offers relationship advice, which is a wealthy piece of information for a college student, or for anyone. We thought he could better the entire community while offering fun and entertaining honest advice.?
The event, which features guidance from the man who played Hitch even before Will Smith, is guaranteed to leave you changed for the better, or at the very least, entertained for an hour and a half, as promised on his website, www.datingdoctor.com. It says those who listen to him will, among many other things, ?be challenged to change as individuals? and ?learn to date creatively and with proper motives in mind.?
?We are very proud and excited to have him come speak,? Looney said. ?I know this will be a fun and exciting event.?
For one and a half hours with an experienced, engaging relationship ?doctor,? the price is minimal. In fact, it?s so minimal that the Panhellenic Council and IFC have deemed the event free as a gift to the Tech community.
?Yes,? Looney confirmed, ?the event is completely free.?
With no door charge, the Panhellenic Council and IFC are hoping for a large turnout. While there is no exact attendance figure for the affair, based on responses to the Facebook invitation that has circulated, the IFC and Panhellenic Council are expecting around 300 people.
Coleman is scheduled to begin his lecture in Burruss Hall at 8 p.m. and will offer his advice on relationships, commitment and love until roughly 9:30 p.m.
Looney encourages people to stay and not leave immediately following the lecture. She is very glad to say that Coleman ?will be around (afterward) for signing autographs and answering individual questions.?
