When it comes to healthcare, Pena said, ?Healthcare, especially, is one of the most important issues for college students because we are one of the largest uninsured groups in the country.?
Webb supports pooling healthcare collectively and believes these programs should be modeled after the successful Federal Employees Health Benefits Program that provides healthcare for Senators and their families, versus Allen who supports private health care accounts that help small business owners provide quality health insurance to their employees.
One thing both Republicans and Democrats can agree on is how important voting is, especially within the college community. Benoist agrees, saying, ?It?s always important for college students to vote and possibly doubly so this election. Students need to realize that we are a large and vocal group who could really change the face of politics if we all started paying attention. The problem though is cyclical. Students feel that politicians are out of touch with youth issues and don't vote as a result. Politicians don't feel the need to pander to younger voters because they don't vote. We need to break the cycle, and this election should be the one to do it.?
Benoist adds that one important issue to pay attention to this Election Day is the Marshall-Newman amendment, which would amend the Virginia Constitution to define marriage as only a union between one man and one woman. If passed, Virginia would not recognize and deny legal status for relationships between unmarried individuals that intend to approximate the design or effects of marriage. This would affect not only the gay community, but also any two people who have a civil union or legal relationship, but who are not married.
According to Benoist, ?The Marshall-Newman amendment should be a concern to ALL Virginia Tech students as its far-reaching implications could affect the heterosexual domestic relationships students are currently in or could be in the foreseeable future.?

So whether or not you pick a side, get out there and vote for the Senator who shares the same beliefs and ideals you do. Show the politicians and the pollsters that you, the college student, matter on Election Day.
