When I heard there was a BBQ place on College Avenue, I grabbed my roommates, we immediately jumped into our stretchy pants and got over there. I hadn't had good BBQ since I entered college over three years ago and was ready for a schmorgazbourg of pork, potatoes, and beans.

Pee Wee's Pit Barbeque is Blacksburg's newest restaurant. Offering a variety of country-style cooking, Pee Wee's gives guests only a small assortment of side items and main course meat choices. The menu extends a choice of four main items including a pork BBQ sandwich or platter, fried chicken, or BBQ chicken for $5.00. Guests have the option of adding two sides for an extra $2.00. These additions include: mashed potatoes, bacon beans, cole slaw and many more.

As we entered the small eatery, I was surprised to see two large picnic tables with red and white checkered tablecloths. The home-style picnic-like décor and framed pictures of livestock add a touch of coziness to the meal. Be aware if you go during peak dining hours you may have to share a table since seating is very limited.

After ordering and picking up our food at the counter, we got our drinks and sat down. However, I inadvertently filled my cup with soda water. I began looking for plain water but couldn't seem to find it. After several strange looks from fellow customers and a few snickers from my friends, I realized that the clear plastic container next to the drink machine was filled with water. So, if you order water and want to save yourself the embarrassment seek out the container that looks like a hand sanitizer dispenser.

Once we finally found the water, we found a table and began pigging out. I ordered a pork BBQ sandwich with curly fries and apple cobbler. The curly fries were amazing with just the perfect crunch and flavor. Of course, c'mon, all curly fries are bound to be good. My sandwich smelled amazing and was huge. However, when I took my first bite chunks of pork fell out from the bread. I prefer a less chunky BBQ sandwich. Also, there wasn't much taste in the meat. I had to add extra BBQ to make up for the lack of flavor.

With one tasty side and one flavorless option demolished, I moved on to my apple cobbler. Each bite was better than the last. The mixture of cinnamon, apple, and pie crust filled my mouth with a pleasurable swirl. Two out of three… not bad.

Pee Wee's Pit Barbeque is a great place for a quick bite of home-style BBQ. However, for greater satisfaction stick to the side items.
