Joe’s Diner has always been popular for students who crave breakfast food at all hours of the day, remaining one of the only 24-hour service restaurants close to campus.

This may be on reason Joe’s was voted best breakfast/brunch in Blacksburg.

“I think it makes a big difference that we are open all the time,” said Hannah Brame, assistant manager for Joe’s Diner, Incorporated. “After 10:30 (p.m.), there’s not really any other place besides the bigger chains that serves good breakfast like we do.”

The diner has been open since 2001 and has two locations in the area, one in Radford and the other on North Main Street in Blacksburg. The latter location, though, is the more popular of the two and the closest to Tech.

Couple Joes’ 24-hour-service with cheap deals, such as the “Famous Burger and Shake” combo for only $5.49 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and it is an arrangement night owls and party hoppers cannot resist.

Plus, the deco makes for a fun and entertaining atmosphere to feed a hungry stomach. Themed after a 50s soda shop, the walls are covered with pictures of classic iconic pinups like James Dean. The bar comes compete with authentic diner stools and popular music choices from the 50s.

An employee at the Blacksburg location said their biggest menu item is called “Big Joe’s,” which consists of two eggs, breakfast meat, toast, and a choice of hash brown or grits, with optional additions of waffles, french toast or biscuits and gravy. The same employee estimated that “about 70 percent of business is from the college population.”
