Women’s Track and Field
The Women’s Track and Field team was appointed the honor of ‘Athlete of the Week’ by USA Track and Field after their decisive win of the ACC outdoor championship at the University of Maryland. Trackwire also ranked Tech 14th in the nation this week. The team’s next meet is on Thursday for the Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg.

Baseball
Tech baseball started the weekend strong with a win over Boston College with senior Andrew Wells pitching the entire game earning him the Nextel Athlete of the Week. The win broke the team’s 14 game ACC losing streak. However in the tie breaking game of the series the Hokies slipped up and lost 3-2. The team plays Liberty at Home tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at English Field.

Women’s Lacrosse
The women’s lacrosse team fell to the Tar Heels this weekend in the ACC tournament 18-7. Senior Britt Faulkner ended her four year career at Tech with 117 goals, which puts her in second place. Lindsay Pieper, tri-captain for the Hokies, finished the year with 82 caused turnovers, good for the second place slot in the Tech record books. Kady McBrearty was named to the All-ACC squad for her skills at attack after a dominant season scoring 51 points for the hokies, with an impressive 21 assists on the year. McBrearty, a junior, will be looked upon to fill a big role for next year’s squad.

Men’s Basketball
The vacant seat on the bench next to Coach Seth Greenberg has been filled this weekend with the addition of James Johnson to the Hokie family. Coming from fellow in-state school George Mason University, where he was an assistant for two years, Greenberg’s expectations for Johnson are set at the high bar after the Patriots went to the Final Four in 2006 while Johnson was coaching. Johnson’s college ball experience started just a few miles down the road at Ferrum College where he was selected in 2001 to their top 10 players in school history. Johnson replaces Brad Greenberg, who was named to the Head Coach position at Radford University.
