The Hokies qualified 27 athletes to the regional meet throughout the course of a very successful season — the most qualifiers in school history. Eighteen of the 27 competitors come from the women’s team which claimed both the ACC indoor and outdoor titles this year.
Although Tech’s pole vaulters and throwers are no strangers to Regional competition, this year the team qualified athletes in a much wider variety of events. ACC Freshman of the Year Kristi Castlin will perform sprints and hurdles, while junior Tasmin Fanning will lead the distance squad into regional competition.
On the men’s side, junior Billy Berlin looks to improve on his sub-four-minute mile performance from last weekend at Vanderbilt.
The top five finishers at the regional meet will automatically advance to the national meet, while six through 12 will be eligible for at-large bids.
Those athletes who qualify for nationals will compete June 7-9 in Sacramento, Calif.
