The device was found by a maintenance worker in the Sundance Ridge area off of Toms Creek Road, who then called the Blacksburg police late Thursday morning to report it, said Captain Bruce Bradberry in a news release.
The apparatus was described by Bradbery has having six canisters with an attached switch and circuit board, similar to a suicide bomber’s vest.
The condominium area was evacuated after the police saw the mechanism, and the police were able to destroy the device, Bradberry said.
Most of the tenants were evacuated until 2 p.m. on Thursday, and by 3:30 p.m. all were able to re-enter the building.
