New business minor lacks substance

Once again, the Pamplin College of Business makes a mockery of itself and fails to fix what is a real problem.

Instead of doing what upper-echelon universities such as Harvard did to promote diversity, Pamplin chose to create an optional "Business Diversity" minor. Pamplin will give students the option of studying people different from themselves, but judging by the Pamplin students I know, who draw swastikas on dorm room doors and drop the "N Bomb" when black people aren't around, the program is going to fall short. Harvard took a real first step in ending such behavior among undergraduates. All students at the prestigious university are now required to take a course on a religion or ethnicity different from their own. Virginia Tech should strive to influence society like the Ivy League schools do and follow in Harvard's path. Forget about a minor in diversity; start enrolling more diverse students and create a curriculum with "diversity" as part of the foundation.

My opinion is that the University should quit trying to shove diversity down everyone's throat. If student's want to study other religons or cultures, they should choose to do so themselves - they shouldn't be forced to do so.
