The Blacksburg Police responded to the 5500 building of Terrace View at 3:09 a.m. today for the report of a structure fire.
The fire damage was limited to the basement area and apartment D of the building. There were working smoke detectors on the premises. No one was harmed.
The Blacksburg Fire department contained and extinguished the fire, but could not find evidence of how it started.
If there is nothing on the scene that could have started the fire, such as a faulty wire, then it is assumed that the cause of the fire is arson, said Lt. D. J. Davis of the Blacksburg Police Department.
Blacksburg Police had also previously responded to the same locate on July 19 for a report of a suspicious fire. The origin of this morning's fire, a stack of 2x4 framing lumber, was being stored there to make repairs for the damage of the previous fire.
The Blacksburg Police are looking into the possibility that these two fires are related, Davis said. The case is being actively investigated right now.
The Blacksburg Police department asks anyone with additional information regarding these two cases should contact the Blacksburg Police at 540-961-1150.
