Collegiate Times

We can all remember our first Tech home game experience. The energy, the friends, the cheering, it is such a unique atmosphere.

Probably the most memorable experience was the first time we were introduced to the "Stick It In" cheer. The hand motion and the thrusting are truly glorious. I started doing it everywhere. When I have two questions left on a test, I perform a small thrust in my seat. When I'm at D2 and completely full, but there's one plate of food I haven't touched yet, there's only one phrase that comes to mind.

This sacred expression of our Tech spirit has been under attack recently. How can we possibly outlaw something as traditional as hip gyration? In my opinion, there is not enough gesturing. Students could be much more expressive with the intensity of the gyrating and incorporate more spanking during the cheer. Perhaps props could be involved. Just some ideas.

Another argument from the "anti-traditionalists" out there is that the cheer is too sexual in nature. To them I say the mere thought that college kids are having sex is completely preposterous. Colleges today are bastions of abstinence where nothing of the sort takes place. I was appalled to hear such an outrageous claim. Next, they'll be saying we drink on weekends.

I will continue this proud tradition as the students before us. To ask a Hokie fan to stop gyrating is no different than asking the flowers to withhold their blooms, or asking the wind to not blow. I throw my hips to the sky in defiance of oppression. My question to you, fellow Hokies, is this: Do I thrust alone? Do you gyrate with me or against me? Let us continue this proud tradition of pantomiming intercourse. I am Hokie. Watch me thrust (Someone please make that last phrase a Facebook group)!
