Glennon standing tall through thick and thin

Sean Glennon has basked in the limelight, and felt the cold shroud of doubt.

Recently, however, Glennon has spent more game time on the bench than he has orchestrating the Hokie offense; the result of a mid-game personnel change replacing Glennon with true freshman quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

That kind of moment - losing your job to a less experienced and younger substitute - can be hard to swallow, especially after leading a team to a bowl game during a 'rebuilding season' and 10wins. And contrary to a recently reported article, that kind of moment can lead to you make irrational statements.

"I was disappointed at first," Glennon said, "But now I just have to keep the attitude to be ready when my number is called. It was tough, but it was something I just had to get over, and I had to get over myself."

Glennon had not been thinking about transferring to another program, nor had the idea occurred to him before he was asked if it would be an option at the end of the season.

"I think what we have to take into fact here is that he (Glennon) was asked," said quarterbacks coach Mike O'Cain.

"He did not force it, he did not come out and say that he wanted to transfer. He was asked if the situation did not change would you consider transferring, and he said yes, like anybody would."

O'Cain also said Glennon was an integral part of the team, and his loss, if he did transfer, would be felt on the sidelines.

"Whatever decision Sean decides we're going to back him fully on that decision he makes," O'Cain said.

"But that (his transferring) would not be the best for this football team."

Senior linebacker Vince Hall, one of the leaders of the Tech defense, felt Glennon should seize every opportunity possible, but in the end, it's all about desire.

"You are always going to get tested," Hall said, "You can have adversity and try and run away from it, or you're going to try and be the better man about it. In his situation, with him being a senior next year, if he wants to try and fight for the spot, all the power to him, ain't nothing wrong with that, but it's going to be head to head."

"There are still scouts out here at practice, and (the NFL) is the ultimate goal," Glennon said. Really Sean? Unless there are job openings in the mascot department i think you should visit career services.

I think Glennon is a class act. His style of play may not be consistent with the current ability of the O line, and I probably would have made the same decision to play TT. With that said, you can't fault his work ethic, maturity, and commitment to the Hokie football team. I predict there will be a day we're glad he's on the sideline, ready to come in the game.

i don't like this 'lip service' by Coach Beamer, the Offensive cordinator and Mike O'Cain who backed Sean in the eyes of the public then turned their backs on him suddenly. The offensive cordinator, "Sean is as good as any qb he has coached." its either that the offensive cordinator was not telling the truth or he was the distinguished experience of coaching Sean calibre qb which we all know is below par.

I think that Glennon tried his best to live up to what was expected of him but unfortunately it was not enough. Its up to the coach's who should be the quarterback and when it is time to make changes if necessary before too much damage is done. Glennon was showing signs of needing improvement in my opinion all along and he was given every chance to try and improve. This is what VT does, they show loyalty and give everyone a chance to prove themselves while providing support and training the best they can. When the time came that a change had to be made it was done . Its easy for alot of people to second guess the teams decisions and blame Glennon but you have to be in their shoes to know these are not easy decisions and take alot of thought and effort and I think they all deserve our respect rather than our complaints.

Let's not forget that Sean's demotion to second string is the fault of a really bad offensive line and a poor offensive coordinator.

Preseason, Phil Steele had Glennon rated as the #34 QB in the country. That's not too bad, I don't think his rating system takes into account the Offensive line unit though, on his skills alone, Glennon can go to the NFL, provided he has someone to block for him and give him a tad more than 0.3 seconds before having guys on him. GLENNON ISN'T TO BLAME FOR THE LSU GAME. OUR DEFENSE LET THOSE POINTS GO ON THE BOARD, OUR OFFENSIVE LINE WAS BLOWN BY EVERY TIME BY LSU. If the quarterback has no time to had the ball off, much less find a receiver and throw it to them, the offense will not do much either

No way he makes the NFL. Sure he may sound like a great guy, but he has no chance of making it to the NFL. The people that go to the NFL are big time QBs, whether they be at the big time college football level, or at smaller football schools like Tulane or Temple or Stanford. But what they do is actually put up big time stats. Glennon just doesn't do that, nor do I think he has the downfield vision to be able to pass against NFL defenses.

Tyrod is definetly the right choice for our team at the moment, but Glennon is still an excellent quarterback. The LSU game cannot be blames entirely on Glennon as I have seen way too many people do. The defense and the O-line are both equally reaponsible if not moreso. Keep your head up Sean, I hope you make it to the NFL.

I agree that while Glennon may not be a great QB, I don't think he's horrible either. I just think that as others have said, he doesn't have much of an offensive line to block for him & our defense is allowing points to get on the board.
