So if you're one out of the majority of Americans who identify this as a major problem, you should vote democratic, right? Wrong. Ron Paul voted against the abominable Patriot Act and its reauthorization, against the illegal invasion of Iraq (guess which female Senator from N.Y. did neither of these things?) and is much more vocal and clear about removing our troops from Iraq as soon as safely possible than any democratic candidate.
If you are conservative-leaning in your political philosophy, then you are undoubtedly dissatisfied with the fact that the current administration has spent more money than any other in United States history.
Perhaps you want a return to the free-market principles that are proven to yield prosperity. You are most likely disgusted by the federal government being in bed with special interests, including the corrupt practices of corporate welfare, subsidies, and unnecessary regulations.
You are concerned about the prospect of universalized health care - making a trip to the doctor as frustrating as a trip to the DMV and severely reducing quality of care while simultaneously driving up costs. So, in order to reduce taxes, reduce spending, regulations, and avoid "HillaryCare," you should vote republican, right?
Try again. Paul has never voted for a bill that was outside the expressed powers of Article I, Section 8. None of the republican candidates' records can come close to Paul's consistent advocacy of limited government and free market principles.
The Ron Paul campaign raised $2.4 million at the end of the second quarter, more than 99 percent of which came from individuals and almost half from small ($200 or less) contributions.
That means that Dr. Paul's campaign is truly supported by the people and not by special interests. Paul placed first in the N.H. Straw Poll with an unbelievable 72.7 percent of the vote and has come in first in nine others around the country.
Almost half of polled military personnel support Paul over other republican candidates - nearly as much as all others combined. This is because Rep. Paul's enlightened stance on matters of foreign policy resonates with those who see first-hand the realities of our dangerously misguided interventions on the world stage.
Finally, of the five republican primary debates Paul participated in, online polls showed Paul as the winner of four by a significant margin. The people have spoken - Ron Paul's message can no longer be ignored.

I loved the article, but I somewhat object to this being called a "humanist" political revolution. Humanists and atheists are certainly welcome in the cause of freedom, but the freedom message resonates just as much with people of faith (like Dr. Paul) who also want the government to stop infringing on the private practice of religion! A smaller government will benefit everyone, except, perhaps, those who live directly off the Federal Leviathan. They will need to find something productive to do instead.

Christine Malady, I must offer my sincere thanks for such a well written piece. I especially enjoyed how well you pointed out that the message of Ron Paul crosses many barriers and erases the lines of partisanship that has so broken this nations people. Well done, bravo.

Ron Paul...who's allegedly a 'second-tier' candidate by the mainstream media, has raised $627,000 is just 3 days by internet donations (from little people like us - $5, $10, $100 at a time). He's the most watched presidential candidate on YOUTUBE (by far, out of any candidate). www.Hitwise.com, and Experian company, ranks Ron Paul's website, out of 10M surfers, the #1 Republican site, and #2 overall, second only to Barack Obama. Ron Paul raised more money last quarter from U.S. Military Personnel than ANY other candidate. Ron Paul, most googled term now for 5 months. Find out WHY Ron Paul has risen meteorically in just 4 short months. Go to www.RonPaul2008.com; or www.DailyPaul.com; or www.IhateRonPaul.com; or www.FreeMe.TV; or any one of hundreds (if not thousands) of websites and bloggers for Dr. Paul.

Great Article! Just one correction: Dr Paul represents Texas' 14th District. Tom DeLay succeeded his 22nd District seat in 1984 and Dr Paul's home was later redistricted into the 14th. Dem Nick Lampson now holds the seat for the 22nd. Also, sorry for the empty comment below. I was reaching for my mouse and hit the numberpad enter key. :o

Ditto, great article. But let's not forget to mention the 800 pound gorilla of entitlements, the least of which is not social security. As the baby-boomers come on line to collect whatever money may be left, those of us still working and those of you who hope to work will be paying for SS, medicare/aid, prescription drugs and now an expanded SCHIP, and even possibly hillarycare. Dr Paul warns us, as does the director of the OMB, that these programs are borderline bankrupt. That means more govt borrowing to cover the shortfall. More govt borrowing means printing more money which make it even more de-valued. You may crack that $100k entry job (unlike your grand-dad/mom who started out at a $2/hour job), but what's it going to be worth when you're 70 and you want to retire in 5 years (moved up over the years from the now 67 year requirement - I remember when it was 55) and they just moved the retirement age to 100?

If anyone ran a business like the leaders run countries today, they would be sacked. It is disgusting to see a world where they talk in billions and even trillions of dollars that there isnt enough money around for a descent retirement and health care. This is of coarse bullshit, there is more than enough money to fund a descent health care system, retirement funds, cleaner enviroment etc. GREED is the only reason the people are not looked after. Under this administration billions of dollars have literally vanished with not one person being made accountable, this is a disgrace, not only for the government but for the people who sit back and watch it happen. This is your money, your tax dollars, which is there for your support, not for the government to make it dissapear into thin air( government pockets). Is someone like Ron Paul was elected could he make a differance even if he wanted to. The entire system of American politics is so corrupt it would be a massive job to turn it around. He talks about geting rid of the federal reserve, which of coarse needs to happen, but could he do it, the power of the bankers who run it is so huge he would be crushed under there wieght. The entire political system in America needs to be scraped and started again with people like Ron Paul leading the way, but to think just voting Ron Paul into power is enough, think again, the people of America need to take control back, this is the only way it can change. So get out and force the changes that need to be done so the government is there for YOU, and not the oil, drug, energy and car companies, and THEMSELVES. Ron Paul is the man for the job, but with out massive support out on the streets, even after he is elected, nothing will change. Money is so involved in American politics it is nothing less than a disgrace, as soon as candidates started talking in millions of dollars to run there campains, the people should have risen up way back then. That was the first sign of money controlling governments, and like it or not, money does control the government now, republican or democrat. So vote for Ron Paul, make sure he wins the election, but you cant stop there, he needs, he must have, your active support when he is in the white house otherwise change is just blowin in the wind.

It is evident that Ron Paul is gathering the American people around him - both Democrats and Republicans. But the establishment will never allow him to be the official Republican candidate. At this point of time Ron Paul may have to decide to become an Independent. If so, he will become the first President voted in as an independent candidate. And with America's past and the Wall Street establishment there is every chance that he may be assasinated. He needs all the support in order to deliver America to Americans.

Just received a google alert regarding Ron Paul. I was even more surprised this article was from CollegeiateTimes.com a VT publican. I grew up in Blacksburg and I have many family members who retired and still work at VT. Christine Malady did a wonderful job with the facts. Personally I voted for Bush both times and have been very concerned with his performance. As a business owner and former banker I have followed Ron Paul's wisdom over the years mainly due to his vast economic knowledge. I have also meet Ron Paul in person and he is very humble and respectful. Nearly a year ago my concerns for our economic future were heightened when the International Momentary Fund announced an intentional 20% decline of the dollar. Ron Paul has been the only candidate to counter this concern with positive effects while Fred Thompson, Duncan Hunter, Rudy never offered a reply. Additionally, the party I grew to respect has lost it's way and Ron Paul has confirmed this concern himself. The GOP morphede into a big spending, big government sloth which has exceeded any democratic administrations expenditures and some still support the idea of spreading democracy beyond our borders which will only end in failure and our nation will suffer when the dollar standard is slowly eliminated amongst the worlds exchange (Saudi just dumped the dollar and so have other nations). In closing the most amazing fact about Ron Paul's Revolution is the fact he unites people from every party. I have attended a few meet up groups and other Paul functions and nearly half are GOP members but the other half are constitutionalist, libertarian, democrat and green party members. Simply AMAZING when you realize our nation has not been united in a long time.

Unfortunately it took segregationist Governor Wallace to reveal the truth that "there's not a dime's worth of difference between" Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats willingly went along with the War in Iraq, suspension of Habeas Corpus, detaining protesters, banning books like "America Deceived' from Amazon, stealing private lands (Kelo decision), warrant-less wiretapping and refusing to investigate 9/11 properly. They are both guilty of treason. Support Dr. Ron Paul and save this great country. Great article! One thing, though, from paragraph 5: "...individual rights provisioned by the Constitution." IMHO, it's more correct to say, "...individual rights **described** by the Constitution," since rights are not given by any authority, but are inherent. Go Ron Paul!

Either Mr. Paul is part of this system of corruption or he is not. American politics is a "go along to get along" system, everyone knows that. Those who do not play the game according to the machine are either humiliated due to some blackmailable indiscretion which seems to be the M/O with political handlers, or they are eliminated outright. As Mr.Paul gains popularity among the voting public and his numbers become too great for the establishment to ignore, the risk of elimination becomes much more serious, especially if the hopes of so many voters in Mr. Paul are justified and that he really is what he seems on the surface. However, we must be willing to entertain the possibility that Mr. Paul, if not directly eliminated from the entire issue, must be part of the same corrupt enterprise and will be yet another servant to the machine grinding all the world. This is the risk, either he is eliminated due to transgressions against the machine or he is in fact another gear in the transmission of politics. Too many times we have witnessed the real power in the world exibit it's strength over leaders who dared to oppose the elite and graveyard are filled with their bones. Let's not forget, Mr. Paul no matter how attractive to ones political stance, is still a Washington insider, and as such is malleable to those in control. Remember their mantra..... "you are either with us, or you are with the terrorists". Average americans are now the new "terrorists". Never forget that........... -Frydaddy

great article, i was greatly impressed with mr. paul the first time i heard him speak in one of the first debates he was in earlier this year. everything he said rang true to me so naturally i have been keeping an eye on him since. i so want him to be telling the truth when he speaks and not lying to us like all the other ones do. it seems like both parties will promise us the moon and then once in office everything goes back to the same old crap. they seem to keep us distracted with little stuff while the real important issues go unresolved. it seems like a big game they are playing on us, like they already know what is going to happen as in a carefully scripted soap opera. if ron paul is for real then he should seriously consider hiring some loyal military (not cia or fbi) people to protect him at all times. once he starts getting too popular i fear for his well being as the elite power structure of the world will not want someone like him to be president. or suppose he would win the election, how do we know that it wouldn't be stolen away from him as in our recent past. i hope ron paul is for real, i guess one way for me to decide will be when we find out who his vice pres. will be. that's when we knew ross perot was a shill when we saw who his running mate was.

Anyone see the PBS All American forum last night? Guess those wacko 3% of the country somehow "spammed in" all that applause, cheering, and chanting his name at the end of the forum? lol, If anyone heard the crowd last night they know what Im talking about...its getting to the point where huge unpaid crowds are cheering for this man everywhere he goes and after everything he says, but the MSM still keeps its blinders on and insists "these people dont exist." This WILL be a revolution, in my opinion, in that I honestly see (with as little bias as I can muster) Paul doing VERY well in the primaries if not winning...and the media having to eat their words- well, they kind of already have to. Provided that happens, Hillary or Obama will have a serious challenge on their hands instead of a pro-war punching bag, and if you ask me, he could very possibly beat either one of them in a GE. RON PAUL UPSET 2008!

I encourage anyone who is interested in Ron Paul to look into Mike Gravel on the democratic side, especially if you lean left on social issues. However, like Paul, Gravel is an outsider, is against US interference in foreign affairs such as in Iraq, for more power for the general public as opposed to centralized super government, and an abolition of the IRS.

Here's a fact that the media and the political parties don't want you to know: Most states (forty-two states) permit "write-in" votes for president and other political offices. Your "write-in" vote can be the name of anyone you please who meets the legal criteria to be President of the United States (legal eligibility: born in the United States, at least 35 years of age with fourteen years residency in the USA. Ron Paul for instance satisfies those requirements). Voters' choices are NOT restricted to the celebrity democrat or republican or independent candidates printed or displayed on the ballot. There are only eight states that do not allow write-in votes. They are: 1.) Hawaii 2.) Louisiana 3.) Nebraska 4.) Nevada 5.) New Mexico 6.) Oklahoma 7.) South Carolina 8.) South Dakota Ref: http://www.fec.gov/pubrec/2000presgeresults.htm Barely 50% of the eligible voters in the United States participate in presidential elections. Fewer than that participate in local elections. That situation exists due to the fact that we're offered the same old dreck in new suits every election and many people don't bother, which is perfectly understandable. If Americans were made aware of the fact that their choice is NOT restricted to the candidates on the ballot and they can instead write-in their vote for any person who is eligibile (eligibility requirements are in parenthesis above) millions more people would become involved in the political process. BTW, If the local voting machine is not clearly marked voters can ask one of the voting-place employees for the procedure to write-in his or her vote. Regards, Mark

Since it is mostly US news that travels around the world... as soon as one or more of big networks "leaks" a good story on Ron, either because of his inflating funds or a soon-to-come celebrity endorsement or other, the rest of the world will know. Because of Ron's positions, and especially foreign policy, which is obviously of most interest to us 6.4 billion outside the US, he will be an instant hit. Ladies and gentlemen in the US, do you realize how many people can support the revolution? I cannot say I represent 6.4 billion people, but I am rather sure at least a couple hundred million of them (!) will heavily agree with me. Ms. Malady, I applaud your enthusiasm over politics, but wish to remind you that a healthy dose of realism is needed in any political commentary. Remember Howard Dean? During the run-up to the 2004 presidential election, he, too, was raising large sums of money and had a large fan base on the Internet. Ultimately, Dr. Dean did not win a single primary. Rep. Paul looks well on his way to meeting that same fate. The most recent Rasmussen poll in New Hampshire show Rep. Paul with less than 5% of the support of likely voters in the Granite State (by way of comparison, the leader--Gov. Mitt Romney--has 25% support). Similar polls in Iowa, South Carolina, Florida and Michigan show Rep. Paul holding less than 5% support. Granted, much can change between now and the primaries, but I see very little chance of Rep. Paul winning especially since his views on many issues (especially on foreign policy) are so out of line with those of most Republicans (both in leadership and at the grassroots level). Additionally, when citing polls, it is always a good idea to cite the poll by name because not all polls are created equal. Doing this will lend more credence to your argument. Once again, your enthusiasm over politics is refreshing; keep your positive attitude and you will go far in life. Best regards!

From your Canadian Cousin. I have to tell you that I and I know i speak for many are delighted that you are beginning to see beyond the cabal that run the United States of America today. In the unlikely event that Ron Paul wins the presidency (probably the same week in which the entire Israeli population converts to Christianity and shrimp learn to whistle), he will be approached by the tru holders of power - unless they have already determined that he is not amenable to bribery and coercion. In that case, he will be removed. JFK was removed. Oh, go do your homework, everybody. Enough with silly speculations.

I have been impressed with Paul. Lately, I've felt that whatever our administration is doing, we should be doing the exact opposite. Its refreshing to hear from one candidate (Paul) that we have no business in Iraq, that we should restrain the influence of government in our lives, and that we should take steps to limit the power of the Federal Reserve over our currency. In some ways, I'm amazed the "establishment" has allowed him to proceed this far. I'd like to support him any way I can.

It will not be enough to elect Ron Paul president. We also need to elect like-minded persons to at least a majority of the House and at least 60% of the Senate, and to state and local offices. He wouldn't be able to do much with the present Congress but be rendered ineffective, and enough people would blame him for that to discredit his positions on the issues. We need to make "constitutional compliance" the leading issue in every race for every office, meaning compliance with the U.S. or state constitutions as originally meant. See http://www.constitution.org for more on that.

Name calling aside dannno, my information comes from common sense and following politics for many years. Ron Paul or any other candidate can not run as a member of their party and pander to the other side. A serious candidate can not humor the 9-11 Troofers and be considered a serious and legitimate candidate. I feel embarassment for him when I see him speak or hear him answer questions at the debates. He is the Republican Party's version of John Edwards. He needs a new website too; it needs to be changed to GomerPile2008.com.

I know now that he is not some conspiracy theorist, and he does have quite alot of credibility as he has been involved in the House of Representatives for over 25 years! I am starting to think that maybe he does have a chance. This web page has definitley got me thinking of the possibilites that a fresh candidate like Mr. Paul could offer the American people.
