Beth Dunkenberger
Beth Dunkenberger is the head coach of the Virginia Tech women’s basketball team. Since she was hired as a head coach for the Hokies in 2004, she has guided Tech to postseason appearances in three of her first five seasons.
Dunkenberger has a long history with the Virginia Tech women’s basketball program. The Roanoke, Va. native actually served under former-head coach Carol Alfano’s staff for nine years.
She worked as a graduate assistant at Tech for two years before being promoted to a full-time assistant position, and she helped lead the Hokies to the 1994 and 1995 NCAA Tournaments.
Before she came to Tech, however, Dunkenberger was a player, earning top student-athlete honors in 1988 in her senior year at Randolph-Macon College. She was also an all-conference selection and Academic District All-American in college.
At Randolph-Macon, Dunkenberger graduated in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. After that, she attended graduate school at Tech and in 1990, graduated with a master’s degree in education ― sports management.
Between her two stops at Tech, she also served as a coach. From 1997 to 2000, she was an assistant at Florida. She earned her first head coaching position at Western Carolina in 2000.
