Charles W. Steger
Charles Steger (June 16, 1947 - ) has been president of Virginia Tech since Jan. 7, 2000. He is the university's 15th president.
Steger's relationship with Virginia Tech has spanned four decades, having been student, faculty, department head, dean of the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, vice president for Development and University Relations and, finally, president.
As a student, Steger received a bachelor of architecture degree in 1970, master of architecture in 1971 and Ph.D. in environmental science and engineering in 1978, all from Virginia Tech.
Steger has been married to his wife, Janet, since 1969. They have two children.
