The largest all-male residence hall on the East Coast will house female students in the fall semester.
Edward F. D. Spencer
Dr. Edward F. D. Spencer was chosen to fill the position of vice president of student affairs on November 1, 2008, soon after the death of Dr. Zenobia Lawrence Hikes. He oversees the 15 departments in the Division of Student Affairs, some of which include Student Activities, Housing and Dining, Student Health Services, Recreational Sports, Career Services and the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets.
Spencer began working in student affairs in 1970 at the University of Delaware. He held three positions at Delaware until he came to Virginia Tech in 1983. During the time he was working at the University of Delaware he taught several undergraduate courses. At Tech, he now teaches the graduate course “The American College Student and the College Environment.”
He is a winner of many awards: Executive of the Year from the New River Valley Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals, Most Outstanding Faculty Advisor, Most Outstanding Chapter Advisor, Dissertation of the Year from the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and the Order of Constantine from the Sigma Chi International Fraternity.
