Letter: Both candidates handled outcome with class by Letter to the editor Wednesday, November 5, 2008; 9:22 PM My husband and I are both under 30, Virginia Tech alums and avid watchers of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart." Can you guess who we voted for?
Column: After an uphill battle, McCain supporters should feel proud by Liza Roesch, Regular Columnist Wednesday, November 5, 2008; 9:19 PM Yes, they can. And they did. We Republicans lost big in this presidential election, and now we should respectfully hand over the bragging rights to Democrats, with hopes of snagging them back again in four years. Despite the significant loss McCain and the Republican Party experienced Tuesday, we can argue that under the circumstances it could've been a lot worse. And for that reason, we can't be completely devastated.
Virginia girds for electoral battle by Candace Sipos, CT politics editor Monday, November 3, 2008; 9:32 PM The state that was once barely touched by presidential candidates may determine who moves into the White House, with southwest Virginia's preference swaying the polls.

Editorial: Will the real 'Joe the Plumber' please, please stand up? by CT Editorial Board Wednesday, October 15, 2008; 10:56 PM Everybody on board the Say Nothing Express. What used to be about "straight talk" and "hope" has instead become a sad charade. Barack Obama has gone into "three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust" mode, making sure to cover up the football and not let John McCain have anything easy. McCain, for his part, took half-hearted jabs all night.
Column: It's time to focus on issues, not gossip in upcoming election by Erika Encinas, CT regular columnist Wednesday, October 15, 2008; 10:21 PM As of today, there are exactly 19 days left until Nov. 4, 2008 -- Election Day, or as I like to call it, the day that will usher in heaven or hell. On that day, millions of Americans will wake up, go about their daily activities, and somewhere in between their already hectic schedules, find time to vote for the next president of the United States.
Letter: Palin lacks foreign policy experience necessary to get job done by Letter to the editor Tuesday, October 7, 2008; 11:40 PM
Editorial: A heaping helping of blah, blah, blah, 'or something like that' by CT Editorial Board Tuesday, October 7, 2008; 11:38 PM With no notes in the thick of the battle, Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain went toe-to-toe in Nashville last night with a largely emasculated Tom Brokaw holding sway -- the campaigns agreed that there would be no follow-up questions, though Brokaw did throw in a few over the course of the evening.

Column: For younger voters, respect has no place in presidential election by Liza Roesch, CT regular columnist Wednesday, September 24, 2008; 11:05 PM As the presidential election creeps closer, the race may be tightening but bipartisan friendships around campus definitely are not. As I talk to people and listen to discussions, I've noticed an unbelievable amount of defensiveness surrounding an individual's candidate choice and bitterness toward those who don't agree.
Column: Candidates are quick to deceive with false hope by Kevin Gillispie, CT regular columnist Wednesday, September 24, 2008; 11:03 PM Youth is easily deceived because it is quick to hope, said Aristotle. I prefer, where there's hope, there's a liar.
Editorial: McCain's campaign gambit deserves national derision by CT Editorial Board Wednesday, September 24, 2008; 11:01 PM In the midst of this compelling presidential season we may be sometimes wont to forget that both parties' nominees are serving U.S. Senators.

Column: 'Go ahead, blame Juno:' Sarah Palin and abortion by Daron Williams, CT regular columnist Monday, September 8, 2008; 10:21 PM Oh, the irony! The brand new vice presidential hopeful -- Sen. John McCain's hand-picked understudy who he hopes will restore his Republican street cred with hard-core righties -- is about to be a grandmother to an illegitimate child. Go ahead, blame "Juno."
Column: Understanding McCain's vice presidential pick by Matt Eldridge, regular columnist Thursday, September 4, 2008; 12:09 AM After the smoke settled and even after those ridiculous VPILF jokes began to die down, I was left wondering the very real question: Who is Sarah Palin and why did John McCain pick her as his VP candidate? The basics were made clear at the big nominating event: Palin, a woman, is governor of the state of Alaska, and, at 44, she is relatively young. A few more facts trickled out soon after: she had five children (with slightly odd names) and she started her career as mayor of a tiny town named Wasilla. Not much else was immediately clear and political commentators scrambled to assemble a complete dossier on her. To be fair, her name has been bandied about for much of the summer leading up to the announcement but very few -- except those with the inside track -- took her nomination seriously.
