Since Todd Scully in 1976, Virginia Tech has sent seven athletes to compete in five Olympic games. These premier competitors have represented the United States, Latvia, Mali, Trinidad and Tobago and Turkey. The 2008 Games in Beijing may have been the most successful for the university, however. Five Hokies represented their respective countries in this pinnacle of athleticism.
Tech alumnus to swim for Turkey in Olympics

Ankara, Turkey, native Kaan Tayla is not a newcomer to the Olympic scene. During the 2004 Olympics in Athens, at the age of 18, Tayla competed in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle for Turkey.

With the 2008 Olympic games held in Beijing, China a little more than a month away, the trials for the U.S. swimming and diving team started this past weekend, and will last throughout the rest of the week in Omaha, Nebraska. Of the hundreds of athletes trying to make the Olympic squad stand seven Hokies.
Track and field to send athletes to Olympic Trials

Two weeks ago, Virginia Tech's Track and Field team walked into the National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa after the women had just won their second East Regional title and the men's team came off its best performance yet.
