Column: Hokie spirit revisited during football season by Liza Miller, regular columnist Tuesday, October 7, 2008; 11:39 PM For me, football games have always been more of a social event than a sporting event. I love getting decked out in maroon and orange, spending time with friends and enjoying autumn Saturdays in Blacksburg -- a place I rarely see before noon on non-game days. I usually make it to the game, but I have been known to sneak away during halftime to sleep off some of my tailgating. I was excited and a little perplexed as to how the football game would go when for the first time I was accompanied to the game with my parents instead of my friends.
