Parking
Parking has been a challenging situation over the years for Virginia Tech students. As more students attend the university, parking has become more complicated. Freshmen are also allowed to bring their cars to college, leaving Tech in the minority that allows this privilege.
On-campus students have three main options when parking with a “Resident” permit. The Chicken Hill Lot and the adjacent Stadium Lot are two large lots in the south end of campus. During football season, cars in the Stadium Lot have to be moved prior ot games. Additionally he Duck Pond Road lot ― commonly referred to as “The Cage” ― is a large parking lot situated on the west end of campus.
Commuters face an evolving parking situation as the university is currently in the process of constructing a new parking garage ― the first on campus ― in the Prices Fork Lot. The new $26 million garage, set for completion in fall 2010, is projected to hold between 1,200 and 1,300 new parking spots. However, construction for the new garage has stripped 402 spots from the lot.
Parking Services took its office online in 2010. Students can pay parking fines and purchase parking permits online on its Web site.
