Patty Raun
Patty Raun is the director of the School of Performing Arts and Cinema. Raun has appeared in more than 100 theatrical productions and 75 film and television works. She came to Virginia Tech in 1986 and has received Tech’s Teaching Excellence Award and an Outstanding Educator Award from the Virginia’s Governor School. Her teaching specialties include voice and speech dialects as well as acting.
Before coming to Tech, Raun received a bachelor’s of fine arts from the University of Nebraska in 1982 and a master’s of fine arts from Penn State in 1986.
Over the course of her career, she has appeared in many professional productions. In 2001, she traveled to Stratford-upon-Avon where she worked with the voice department of the Royal Shakespeare Company. In 2005, she premiered in a one-woman show by Thomas Gardner at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. She has dabbled in directing and worked on “The Conversation About the Keys” in spring of 2009.
