Tech hurdler completes triple crown

Last weekend, Virginia Tech senior hurdler Queen Harrison did something no woman had ever done.

Queen Harrison (Sept. 10, 1988 - ) is a sprinter and hurdler for the Virginia Tech women’s track and field team.
Harrison made Tech history in 2008 by becoming only the second Hokie, and first female track and field athlete, to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic squad. In the 2008 Olympic Games, Harrison advanced to the semifinals in the 400-meter hurdles and finished second in the 400-meter hurdles finals with a school-record time of 54.60 at the Olympic Trials.
In the 2009 outdoor season, she swept the hurdles competitions at the ACC meet, winning the 400-meter and 100-meter hurdles with times of 56.03 and 13.14, respectively. She won ACC Women’s Performer of the Year for her effort at the conference meet.
Harrison attended high school at Hermitage High in Richmond, Va. There, she was a two-time Virginia AAA state champion, winning the outdoor long jump in 2004 and the indoor long jump in 2005. She was a three-time team MVP at Hermitage and also won multiple district and regional championships in her high school career. She was also a member of the All-state academic team.

Senior Queen Harrison broke Virginia Tech's record for the women's 400-meter with a time of 53.64 seconds, earning herself a trip to the NCAA Championship in just the first meet of the indoor season.
