Volleyball prepares for opening weekend trifecta by Joe Crandley, ct sports reporter Wednesday, August 27, 2008; 11:13 PM The Tech women's volleyball team will open its season this weekend with three games in the Hawthorn Suites Hokie Invitational. The Hokies will square off against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Friday night at 7 p.m. and then against Winston-Salem State and Coastal Carolina on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. Last season, the Hokies finished with a 14-18 record overall and an 8-14 record in conference. Tech played well at home with a 9-5 record that included six conference wins, but struggled on the road to a 2-11 mark. Still, head coach Chris Riley is optimistic that the away record will improve.
