“ McComas Hall opened to students in 1998 with 61,000 square feet of recreation space. In a typical year, the building receives more than 300,000 visits, with single daily peaks close to 3,000 visits. As a result of the ever-increasing popularity of recreation, the facility will be expanded by approximately 25,000 square feet in 2009-2010. The expansion will be two stories and located predominantly at the south end of the building, adjacent to Rector Field House. It is currently targeted to open during the fall semester of 2010.
This expansion addresses the primary need for additional cardio equipment and strength training spaces by providing two areas of approximately 8000 square feet for each of these activities. The expansion will allow space for approximately 90 additional pieces of cardio equipment and 70 pieces of strength training equipment to be added to the facility. Currently, the facility has almost 5,000 square feet of strength training space and 3,500 square feet of cardio equipment space containing 54 pieces of equipment throughout the building. ”
